Restyle a Dress

This is a very easy way to restyle a dress.

A client of mine wanted to add interest and also length to a dress she had bought a few months ago and never worn.

I suggest adding a band of fabric to the skirt of the dress in a different shade.

Don't you think this is lovely?

My client was so pleased with it.

It was like a new dress.

Just thing I would like to say make sure the front and back band is matching.
If you need any help on your sewing projects just ask.

Bye for now

Hemming a pair of Jeans

As I was taking up the hem on a pair of jeans I thought you might like to know a tip I was given many years ago. Trim the inside tip of the seam seen in the photo

Next using a small hammer hit the thick part of the seam,

this makes it easier to sew over the seam

No trouble now for the "foot" of your machine !

This is the hammer I use ,so light and handy.
Hope this has helped you

St.Patrick's Day

As St.Patrick's Day is nearly here I thought you might like to see my contribution to the "green".This is a lovely green velvet bag hand embossed with the Celtic Knot design. Ideal for jewellery, mobile, gift etc.

Another one of my projects is this pin cushion made in the same colour and design.
Love working with this velvet although it can be a struggle sometimes as it's inclined to slip.
Have lots of different colours ,Burgandy,Blue,Green,Chocolate Brown, and Purple.
I'll be making some cushion covers soon and I'll post them here.Bye for now.

Sewing tips

Just a couple more sewing tips I thought might be of some use to you.

I have had a number of people asking me to explain the measurements on the "inch" tape, so I hope this will help.

Another tip is for when your buying fabric or a dress, etc. scrunch it in your hands and if it falls back and holds its shape, great! but if it holds the wrinkles,by all means buy it if you like ,but just remember it might need a lot of ironing!

First weave

I just had to show you this piece of weave my granddaughter of 10yrs did in school
this week. It's her first piece and she is thrilled.
She also loves to paint and she plays the "tin whistle".
It's great to see schools are teaching crafts to children and keeping up tradition.

January 2011

I know I'm very late posting since December but I've been busy working (lucky me)

My alteration business is busy and my "Shopping" bags or as their known in America as "Totes"are very popular, not only for shopping but they can be used for carrying baby clothes(nappies, wipes, etc)

My granddaughters love them to carry their accessories for dance class and also gym class.
The fabric is strong cotton, lined with cotton with large inside pocket and matching purse.
Hope you like them,if you need more information just email or leave a comment.
